Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I get really excited when I start seeing Halloween decorations in stores. I love pumpkins, cute scarecrows, and black cats with glowing green eyes. To me, Halloween represents the start of the holiday season, crisp weather, scarves, scary movies, and of course, fun decorations. In this post, I’m sharing how to make this cute little DIY mason jar mummy/ghost. It’s super quick to put together, looks adorable in a Halloween display, and would be an easy, fun craft to do with… Read more »

Last June, John and I took a fun weekend trip to Montrose/Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, which is in southwest Colorado. We spent the first night walking around downtown Montrose and then the next day exploring the Black Canyon (which was extremely intense-I’m planning on putting together a post on that soon). Downtown Montrose is a quaint city with a population of around 19,000 people. It serves as a gateway for fun tourist attractions like the Black Canyon of the Gunnison… Read more »

Happy last day of August, guys! Since this is a Monday and we all know how those can be, I wanted to share some encouragement in song form. The other day, I came across the song “Keep Your Head Up,” by Andy Grammer on Spotify. I’d heard the song on the radio years ago when it first came out and thought it was catchy, but had never paid much attention to the lyrics. This time, I listened to the lyrics… Read more »

I think I’m going to start doing these “5 things on Friday” posts. The main reason is because I normally have so many quick ideas and updates that I want to post, so this gives me a way to share multiple things at once. I’m also a huge fan of lists. Especially handwritten ones. But since blogging is not very conducive to handwritten lists (with the whole digital thing and all), I think this is the next best thing! So,… Read more »

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Between all of the parades, classic American snacks, baseball games, and sparkly fireworks there are to choose from, what’s not to love? We spent this past 4th of July in Austin. So, this Grateful Heart Monday post is dedicated to some of the the good things that happened on our 4th of July weekend! Good thing #1: As I talked about in this post, my dad had been living in… Read more »

guys behind the blog, guys behind the blog link up, heavens to betsy blog, young married blog, newlywed blog,

We’re happy to participate in our first Guys Behind the Blog Linkup with Betsy & AJ of Heavens to Betsy, and Laura Jean & Jacob of According to Laura Jean! John’s mentioned before that he would be down to write posts on the blog with me sometime, so when I came across this link-up, I knew we had to do it. June’s theme is all about vacations/summer, which is the perfect topic for John because he’s just as obsessed with… Read more »

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift–that’s why they call it the present.” I’ve loved this quote for a long time and it’s been on my mind lately. As I mentioned on the blog last year, my grandfather is very sick. He has late-stage emphysema, cancer, and is doing in-home hospice care. Back in May, my parents and brother drove from Austin to Denver to spend time with him and the rest of our family… Read more »

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, guys! I just wanted to show you a super quick and EASY sign that I made for St. Patrick’s Day. This is obviously the simplest thing ever, but I love green & gold together and I enjoy attempting to write in pretty cursive, so it was fun. I was partially inspired by St. Patrick’s Day, and partially inspired by the cover of my favorite coffee table book, “Places to Go, People to See” from kate spade…. Read more »

Today, I’m linking up with Amanda from Amanda Moments for the “Tell Me About Your Town” linkup! This month’s theme is restaurants in your city. I think one of the most fun things to do when traveling is to check out the local restaurants, so I love this linkup because it basically lets me travel vicariously. :) I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and during my time here, I have found some restaurants that I consider local gems. Before I… Read more »

Like most parts of the country, it was a snowy February in Colorado Springs. We got about half a foot here, and it stuck around for quite a while. Austin had a big ice storm, and I heard that some areas in Dallas got up to 6 inches of snow. I won’t even get started on how crazy the snow was in the northeast (I feel for you guys!). During one snowy Saturday here in Colorado Springs, my mother-in-law treated… Read more »
