About two months ago, I excitedly announced that John and I had started the Couch to 5K Running Plan. Ideally, we would have been able to do the plan’s nine weeks consecutively, but life got in the way. Since January of 2016, I had been dealing with horrible pain in the left side of my face (sinus headaches, tooth/jaw pain, etc.). I had a cracked wisdom tooth, an impacted wisdom tooth, and a sinus cyst, along with my usual TMJ problems. Not… Read more »

seeking validation from others,

This quote resonates with me because it’s something I’m trying to work on. It’s easier said than done. I’ve given this topic some serious thought and there’s a lot that I could say. But I think the most important thing that I’ve learned is to not let other people’s opinions keep you from doing what you think is right. I hope this quote has given you some inspiration today!

I relate to this quote: “I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.” It’s a beautiful thought, isn’t it? That there are so many worthwhile things in the world that it’s challenging to experience everything that we want to? On any given day, I have a list on my phone of around 20 things… Read more »

It’s time for The Golden Vlog again! I participated for the first time last month and had so much fun doing it that I’ve decided to make it a monthly thing now. In this video, I’m answering questions about what I’m currently loving, working towards, eating, feeling, enjoying, watching, writing, following, listening to, trying, wearing, pinning, traveling to, reading, & celebrating. I like these prompts because I was able to talk about both fun and more serious stuff going on… Read more »

A few weeks ago, we spent our Saturday evening at the Festival of Lights Parade in downtown Colorado Springs. This was awesome for multiple reasons. One, I LOVE Christmas stuff and a Christmas parade is about as over-the-top as you can get! Two, I’m in love with downtown Colorado Springs and downtowns in general, especially at Christmastime. There’s a special Christmas spirit in cities during the holidays and it’s wonderful. We walked around downtown for a while before the parade… Read more »

smell of possibility, i love the smell of possibility in the morning, quotes about mornings,

Waking up is hard. I love Zooey Deschanel’s quote on the topic: “In an ideal world no one would talk before 10 am. People would just hug, because waking up is really hard.” I feel that way before I’ve actually gotten up and I’m just laying in bed scrolling through my newsfeed on my phone. But once I’ve sufficiently bribed myself to get out of bed with some iced chai tea (I’m one of the crazy people who still drinks iced drinks… Read more »

Happy last day of August, guys! Since this is a Monday and we all know how those can be, I wanted to share some encouragement in song form. The other day, I came across the song “Keep Your Head Up,” by Andy Grammer on Spotify. I’d heard the song on the radio years ago when it first came out and thought it was catchy, but had never paid much attention to the lyrics. This time, I listened to the lyrics… Read more »

I think I’m going to start doing these “5 things on Friday” posts. The main reason is because I normally have so many quick ideas and updates that I want to post, so this gives me a way to share multiple things at once. I’m also a huge fan of lists. Especially handwritten ones. But since blogging is not very conducive to handwritten lists (with the whole digital thing and all), I think this is the next best thing! So,… Read more »

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Between all of the parades, classic American snacks, baseball games, and sparkly fireworks there are to choose from, what’s not to love? We spent this past 4th of July in Austin. So, this Grateful Heart Monday post is dedicated to some of the the good things that happened on our 4th of July weekend! Good thing #1: As I talked about in this post, my dad had been living in… Read more »

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift–that’s why they call it the present.” I’ve loved this quote for a long time and it’s been on my mind lately. As I mentioned on the blog last year, my grandfather is very sick. He has late-stage emphysema, cancer, and is doing in-home hospice care. Back in May, my parents and brother drove from Austin to Denver to spend time with him and the rest of our family… Read more »
